Songmont — a name born from “Song,” the pronunciation of the Chinese character for pine tree, and “Mountain” — means “a pine beneath the mountain.” Founded in 2013, Songmont is inspired by the Eastern philosophy of self-awareness and contentment, designing timeless bags that resonate with the aesthetics of resilience and elegance for the modern professional woman.

// The starting //

I need a bag for working!

When Fusong, founder of Songmont, returned to work after giving birth, she faced an unexpected challenge: finding a laptop bag that was both stylish and practical for someone of her petite frame. Determined to meet the demand of herself, she set out to design one herself. The result was a handbag crafted from olive green, top-grain leather, with a gold metal zipper—a design so simple but practical.




Fusong’s mother, skilled in craftsmanship, brought this minimalist vision to life by hand. This bag, created purely for Fusong’s daily needs, marked the beginning of Songmont. There was no logo, no romantic backstory—just the genuine desire for a bag that fit her life. When she shared it on her social media, it quickly drew admiration and requests, sparking the journey that would shape Songmont gradually.



Fusong, a former UI designer at Google, didn’t have formal training in fashion or bag design. Her love for design began in childhood, sketching dresses that her mother would bring to life. Over time, this passion evolved into creating small, functional pieces for everyday life—blending her eye for aesthetics with practicality.


Songmont began when Fusong approached bag design with a UI designer’s eye: practical, intuitive, beautiful—created to meet real needs. For professional women, there’s the laptop bag for work, a spacious tote for shopping, and a clutch or mini bag for events. Each scenario becomes a need, and Fusong believes that designs born from genuine needs will always have a place.




// The warm bag // Songmont’s very first bag was crafted by her mother. And the brand’s first collection? It was brought to life by a team of grandmother sartisans with an average age of 65. Once skilled in traditional folk arts, these had seen their crafts replaced by machines, leaving them without work or a way to preserve their art.

As Songmont entered its second decade, the grandmother artisans, now older, gradually transitioned from production roles to positions in repair, providing a “lifetime repair service” for Songmont bags.




// Grow roots //Fusong’s life might appear seamless from the outside: studying at China’s top art academy at 20, joining Google as a UI design manager at 30, and founding Songmont at 40. But the reality holds more depth. At 20, her path began with the setback of failing her first college entrance exam. By 30, she was defying the doubts of others, pushing herself toward higher professional goals. At 40, even with a stable, enviable position, Fusong chose to leave and pursue her dream of starting a fashion brand—a vision that had been with her since childhood.


Each step in Fusong’s life has taken a decade of growth and exploration. She firmly believes it’s “better to grow roots than to drift like duckweed,” embracing the power of long-term commitment—a belief she now shares with the world through Songmont.
